ABOUT
Jo Pendered is a portrait and figurative artist working mainly in oils. When not fulfilling commissioned portraits she likes painting the human form.

A graphics graduate of Canterbury College of Art in 1986, preceded by a foundation course in Fine Art at Blackpool and Fylde College, she spent most of her working life supporting her children as a professional photographer. In 2010 she won a British Institute of Professional Photographers award for promising newcomer in children’s photography.

Like many, the pandemic enabled Jo to revisit painting for the first time since leaving college. Without the constraints of time and demands of paying customers she began to record what was available to her – her own environment, family and friends – and what interested her- the human form, light and shade and the colours within. Jo’s work is very personal and sometimes quite intimate in that it portrays the players in her own life, past and present, and her immediate environment.

Now at the beginning of her painting career Jo has, so far, had work exhibited in two joint exhibtions in France – at the MJC Galerie, Gaillac in 2024 and Le Moulin Galerie in Monesties 2025. In 2026 she will exhibit her paintings at the prestigious, Chateau de Saurs. A return visit to Le Moulin Galerie is planned for August.

She lives in the Tarn region of France, where she also runs a chambres d'hotes:

Comissions
It is both a privilege and a responsibility to be commissioned to paint a portrait. Several of the paintings on this site are commissioned pieces. Some are painted purely from life and some using a combination of photographs and a knowledge of the sitter acquired over the years.

Pricing is based on several different factors including the size of the painting required, the time spent painting and the location of the sit. That can be either in my studio in France or at your home. I can work purely from photographs but the results are enhanced when I can spend some time with the person, sketching, painting, taking my own photographs and just observing.

Please get in touch with me and we can have a chat about commissioning your portrait.
